Lamont Hunter Released After 17 Years In Prison
Yesterday, Lamont Hunter was freed after over 17 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. In 2006 his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son fell down the stairs while under Lamont’s care. He was convicted of aggravated murder, child endangerment, and rape and sentenced to death in Ohio. Two years ago the coroner changed the manner of death from homicide to undetermined based on evidence she had not previously seen. This lead to a plea offer of lesser charges that if Lamont accepted, he would be freed. Although he is innocent and has always stood by his innocence, yesterday he took the offer and plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering so he could be released. CIFS was honored to submit an amicus brief on Lamont’s behalf in 2019.
