Summary:
The Forensic Science Researcher/Analyst provides and assesses the critical data that drives CIFS’s Expert Development Program and policy recommendations. The Researcher/Analyst distills available literature and data into straightforward, understandable educational materials and promotes volunteer activity and involvement.
Reports to: Expert Development Director
Department: Strategic Litigation & Expert Development
Supervises: Interns & volunteers
Salary Range: $50,000 – $65,000 annually

•       Technological fluency that includes electronic publications and databases
•       Keen verbal and written communication skills
•       Knowledge of and capacity for numeric and other data analyses
•       Fastidious organizational skills and consistent attention to detail
•    Impeccable time management and remote work skills
Responsibilities/ Activities:
1. Identifies research questions relevant to real-world criminal legal problems
2. Designs strategies to approach identified questions
3. Searches for sources in a wide variety of modalities and identifies strengths and shortcomings of research, applying a modified Cochrane framework
4. Drafts, publishes and disseminates written reports on findings
5. Maintains database of research
6. Organizes, communicates with, and facilitates participation of volunteers
7. Provides periodic reports to staff leaders and Board of Directors
8. Solicits, reviews, and responds to applications for volunteers
9. Assists and participates in volunteer training
10. Participates in appropriate staff meetings as assigned
11. Work with attorneys to meet program goals, assess and track program metrics, research and development. This includes legal research and drafting of documents as assigned
12. Completes other duties as assigned
Education, Credentials, and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Demonstrated knowledge of print and online scientific sources
• Legal research experience preferred, but not required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Astute critical thinking, analysis and capacity to evaluate and compare qualitative and quantitative research
• Passion for CIFS’ mission that permeates external engagements
