Police Policy and Procedure Recommendations
CIFS Board President Keith Findley Co-Chaired the Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Ad Hoc Committee, which just released its final report. Among other useful reforms, the Committee recommended that police officers work with the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories to limit the transmission of biasing information from police to laboratory analysts. Biasing information that is unnecessary for analysts to do their work (like information about the identity of the suspect, shocking details about the crime, etc.) can result in incorrect conclusions and wrongful convictions.
